The grooves in this section involve playing different sticking patterns of singles and doubles between the hi hat and snare, such as - Paradiddle and inverted Paradiddle. These exercises will give you much more possibilities for great sounding grooves and fills and will help you get a much looser feel.
The idea in this section is basically the same as in the previous 16th note sticking patterns, except with 16th note triplets. Now we can use the Double Paradiddle and the Paradiddle Diddle to create great funk grooves and fills with a shuffle or halftime shuffle feel.
The linear concept is best described as playing grooves and fills while hitting just one note at a time, so no two limbs or more are playing together. This style opens up a lot of new possibilities, will make it easier to play complex rhythms, and is very useful for building funk chops.
Using linear patterns in 16th note triplets can be very challenging but also very fun and useful. These exercises will help you build chops and grooves, which can be easily used in swung funk and gospel music.
Sagy Ben-Or was born in Haifa, Israel on April 7th, 1977. He started his musical education at the age of 14 and by the time he was in high school, he was playing with local bands, while learning from the best teachers in Israel.
Sagy was first influenced by a fusion music at the age of 16 and immediately had a connection with drummers like Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd and many other great drummers.
In 2004 Sagy moved to L.A to join the LAMA – LA Music Academy – to sharpen his drumming skills and to meet great teachers such as Ralph Humphrey, Joe Porcaro, Mike Packer and many others.
Soon after, Sagy began teaching at various music & drumming schools and eventually opened his own drumming school and focused on teaching private lessons.
