It's time to incorporate the snare in between the 8th notes rather than just on beats 2&4. The 16th note snare drum beat featured in this section also includes snare strokes on the e's and the a's, and can be used in many musical situations. We will also practice 16th note patterns fills.
In this section, we will learn how to play 16th notes bass drum beats. These beats are more advanced and require separating the Hi Hat Part From the bass drum foot. They are great for improving bass drum speed and control.
The beats in this section combine the two previous ones. Now we will practice beats that incorporate 16th notes both on the snare and the bass drum against the 8th notes hi hat pattern. Ensure you have full control of sections 2&3 before moving on to this one.
The beats in this section have a different hi hat pattern from what we have covered in previous lessons.We will play 16th notes with one hand on the hi hat rather than 8th notes. These beats can be difficult at first, since you must play many notes on the hi hat in a short period. That is great for slow rock songs and funk music.

This differs completely from what we were practicing in the previous lessons, since we have our hands alternating between the hi hat and the snare. These beats will improve your independence between the hi hat bass drum and snare, and will allow you to double your hi hat part with any regular beat.

This simply means we have 3 notes per one beat rather than even subdivisions such as 8th notes or 16th notes. All the snare and the bass drum notes are being played with the hi hat part.

This section covers many blues shuffle beats and fills. They are all based around 8th note triplets and should be played with a very relaxed and groovy feel. Practicing the shuffle will increase your independence and later, will allow you to play jazz a lot easier.
Once you understand the shuffle beat, you can practice the same concept but with a half time feel. The half time shuffle is a great sounding groove made popular by Bernard Purdie, one of the most recorded session drummers. This section teaches you some interesting variations of grooves and fills, which can be used in many musical genres from rock and pop to funk hip hop and jazz.
Sagy Ben-Or was born in Haifa, Israel on April 7th, 1977. He started his musical education at the age of 14 and by the time he was in high school, he was playing with local bands, while learning from the best teachers in Israel.
Sagy was first influenced by a fusion music at the age of 16 and immediately had a connection with drummers like Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd and many other great drummers.
In 2004 Sagy moved to L.A to join the LAMA – LA Music Academy – to sharpen his drumming skills and to meet great teachers such as Ralph Humphrey, Joe Porcaro, Mike Packer and many others.
Soon after, Sagy began teaching at various music & drumming schools and eventually opened his own drumming school and focused on teaching private lessons.
